Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held its Graduation Ceremony for Period I of the 2025/2026 Academic Year on 27–29 November at the USU Auditorium. On this occasion, the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., highlighted that today’s professional landscape demands graduates who demonstrate high productivity, strong innovative capacity, and a resilient work ethic in order to remain competitive across various sectors.
“In the workplace, production processes do not depend on particular conditions or justifying excuses. Innovation and hard work must go hand in hand,” the Rector stated during the graduation ceremony of 2,656 USU graduates. He further explained that innovation cannot emerge without hard work; otherwise, it remains merely an aspiration. Conversely, hard work without innovation is akin to navigating a maze without clear direction. Both elements are essential to achieving meaningful outcomes.
He added that innovation and hard work contribute positively to improved well-being, as they are rooted in self-confidence and the freedom to choose the best course of action. This freedom includes the ability to explore one’s potential, express ideas, and seize available opportunities.
“Confidence in articulating valuable ideas fosters personal strength,” he emphasized. According to him, when innovation and hard work are pursued based on trust and principles of fairness—free from bias or partiality—sustainable prosperity can be realized. Such fairness is reflected in treating all parties equally, providing equal opportunities, and making objective decisions.
The Rector also reminded graduates not to develop a habit of blaming others. “By building trust, we can cultivate a culture that values excellence, responsibility, and a spirit of sharing within the community,” he concluded.
