Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has launched the Plug and Play Program as an innovative learning platform designed to help students enhance their skills, foster independence, and prepare for the challenges of the industrial world.

The program was officially launched by USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. at the USU Student Hall on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Conceived as an innovation hub, Plug and Play aims to empower students to develop their potential while strengthening the university’s self-reliance in addressing issues of student welfare and industry readiness.

In his remarks, the Rector expressed his appreciation to all partners who supported the realization of the program. He explained that the idea for Plug and Play originated from an initiative he introduced during the Academic Leader Training in 2023, with the goal of creating a learning model aligned with real-world student needs.

“Through this program, we want to create a more practical learning experience, not just theory in the classroom. Students will be guided to explore, create, and even take risks — because it is through that process that valuable learning takes place,” the Rector stated.

He further emphasized the importance of courage among students to explore new ideas and engage in collaboration. In doing so, the university becomes not only a place to acquire knowledge but also an ecosystem that nurtures creativity, skills, and readiness for the professional world.

Through the Plug and Play Program, USU aims to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also adaptive, innovative, and competitive in the industrial sector.

“Participate in this program with enthusiasm, because from here you will gain valuable experiences that will benefit your future,” the Rector encouraged.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a group photo session involving university leaders, partner representatives, and participating students, symbolizing their shared commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the program.
