On Thursday, October 31, 2024, Universitas Sumatera Utara attended the Socialization of Digital Learning Expansion through Micro-Credentials (PPDK) organized by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs. This socialization discussed the three main challenges of higher education in Indonesia: inequality of access, inequality of quality, and the lack of relevance of higher education programs to the needs of the world of work.
Indonesia has Asia's third-largest education system and the fourth-largest in the world. To improve access and relevance, the PPDK program offers a digital learning platform, Coursera, which provides a variety of courses in business, healthcare, computer science, and more. With more than 155 million registered learners and 325 education and industry partners, Coursera also offers professional certificates that help students prepare for the workforce.
Universitas Sumatera Utara, one of the recipients of PPDK assistance, is ranked 1,201 in the QS World University ranking and has 40,544 students. The Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs hopes that the Coursera platform can be implemented in universities to improve students' skills and competitiveness in the world of work.
