Prof. Muryanto Amin was officially inaugurated as Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) for the 2026–2031 term in a formal ceremony held at the USU Auditorium on Tuesday, January 28, 2026. The inauguration was led by the Chair of the USU Board of Trustees, who also serves as the Minister of Immigration and Corrections of the Republic of Indonesia, Police General (Ret.) Drs. Agus Andrianto.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Dr. Fauzan, the Governor of North Sumatra Bobby Nasution, the Vice Governor of North Sumatra Surya, regional heads, members of the academic community, and other invited guests.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Muryanto Amin emphasized that the inauguration serves as a momentum to strengthen the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and to continue efforts to position USU as a globally competitive university. He highlighted the importance of higher education institutions adapting to global dynamics while continuing to uphold national values and identity.
Meanwhile, the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, underscored the strategic role of universities in managing the region’s large productive-age population. According to him, higher education institutions play a crucial role in improving the quality of human resources to support regional development and community welfare.
Rector Muryanto Amin reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening USU’s role as a center for the development of knowledge that delivers tangible benefits to society. He stressed that reinforcing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education will serve as the primary foundation of his leadership in the years ahead.
