Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a public lecture themed “Integrating Knowledge and Islamic Tradition in Addressing the Dynamics of the Times.” The event took place at the Multipurpose Building of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) USU on Friday (September 4, 2026).
The public lecture served as an academic forum for the USU academic community to broaden its perspectives on integrating knowledge and Islamic tradition in responding to various developments and dynamics of contemporary life.
The event featured Syaikh Prof. Dr. Mu'taz As Subayni, Advisor for Islamic Research Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, as the speaker. During the session, participants received insights into the importance of integrating knowledge with Islamic values as part of efforts to respond to the changes and challenges of the times.
Through this event, USU encouraged the development of an academic space that enriches the perspectives of its academic community while fostering critical, open-minded, and relevant thinking in addressing developments in science, civilization, and society.
The public lecture is expected to contribute to strengthening the academic knowledge of the USU academic community while providing a space for intellectual dialogue on the role of knowledge and Islamic tradition in addressing the various dynamics of the times.
