A total of 5,454 prospective students took part in the 2025 Independent Selection (SMM) entrance exam at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held over two days, June 10–11, 2025. These thousands of participants competed for the 2,652 available seats.
The exams were centrally organized on USU’s campus, distributed across 16 venues using 66 exam rooms prepared by the committee. They were conducted in three daily sessions, starting from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., along with other university leaders, conducted direct inspections on the first day of the exams, including at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI).
Chair of the SMM 2025 Committee and Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., stated that the student intake quota through the SMM pathway this year has increased compared to the previous year, meanwhile, Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, ST., M.Eng., Ph.D., serving as Secretary of the SMM Committee, added that for the Second Phase of SMM, only selected study programs will be opened, depending on the evaluation of unregistered participants from SNBT, SMM Phase I, and the Western Indonesia PTN SMM pathway.
The results for SMM USU Phase I are scheduled to be announced on June 20, 2025. The Western Indonesia PTN SMM pathway registration remains open until June 12, 2025. The selection exam for this route will be held from June 17 to 24, with results announced on June 30, 2025.
